A summer holiday to the Isle of Skye as a child lit the touch paper for a life long passion for the outdoors. Eyes wide mouth open standing surrounded by the towering jagged peaks of the Cuillin mountains was truly awe inspiring, the wilderness of Scotland was incredible and it left its mark.

My photographic curiosity started a few years after the Isle of Skye when picking up an old Nikon F2 film camera. I’d go out experimenting by shooting friends skating, mountain biking or whatever caught my eye. Many hours were spent processing film and printing under the red light of a fume filled darkroom, the tactile craft of print making and watching the image appear in the developer was pure magic. As the years passed I progressed to medium format cameras and then to large format and the beautiful Ebony RSW 45, always loaded with my favourite transparency Fuji Velvia 50 film. My move to digital happened when the cameras started to match the quality of film. The benefits of digital are many, the technology has opened up many more possibilities and therefore creativity, I now shoot exclusively with mirrorless cameras.

Dan Tucker about page Beachy Head

Returning to Scotland in my twenties this time to live, photography and the outdoors naturally came together. I was primed to explore the landscape, armed with a camper van, camera gear and a pot bellied stove for warmth I was ready for the Scottish wilderness and everything it could throw at me.

During that time I knew I had found my true passion, one that continues today just as strong. Nothing beats being up a mountain or by the coast before the sun has risen, the subtle pre dawn light and the little moments of magic that only seem to happen just before and after the sun makes its way above the horizon. Witnessing the day starting never gets old.

Working as a professional photographer takes me to some fantastic places and work with some great people, I relish the creative process and working with companies and brands to create unique imagery.
